The first two days of Eid saw many families turn to the Lahore Zoo, a retreat for children on almost any given holiday. The place was packed to its capacity and the shopkeepers there over-charged children for items such as ice cream, chips, biscuits, juices and tea. Children, mostly from the outskirts of the city, were found excited during their visit to the zoo. Camel ride (a relatively new attraction at the Lahore Zoo) attracted a large number of children. Children looked at the desert animals as they chewed their cud. Big animals such as hippos, rhinos and elephant were the focus of the children’s attention. The monkeys, apes and chimpanzees and lions also attracted big crowds.
The zoo administration, as usual, was seen helpless as people crowding around lions’ cage kept irritating the animals just to induce their roars.
Meanwhile, large crowds also visited the Jallo Park and the Lahore Safari Park that are known for their vastness. Many people turned to more urban retreats including Joyland and Mini Golf at Centre Point. Because of these crowds, the Main Boulevard remained blocked on Chaand Raat and the next two days of Eid. The Mian Mir Bridge too had been closed as swarms of motorcyclists rushed towards the Fortress Stadium. Some people opted to visit the historical sites in the city such as the Lahore Fort. The restaurants and road-side cafes made huge profits during the Eid holidays.
