Hamna, an 18-year-old girl died of dengue in National Hospital, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Friday.
According to details, Hamna has been diagnosed of dengue a few days ago and received treatment in private health establishments. But on Friday, she slipped into coma after internal bleeding in the severest stage of the disease. According to a report released by the Punjab Health Department, around 1,346 dengue patients have recovered from the disease so far. The report said that 33 cases of dengue were reported during the last 24 hours. Around 12 patients are under-treatment at Mayo Hospital, which included one patient from Muzaffargarh while seven patients in Lahore General Hospital and 14 in Services Hospital were being provided free-of-cost treatment.
Dengue spoiled the Eid of hundreds of patients and their relatives, as the epidemic continued in the provincial metropolis. More than 500 patients tested positive during the three days of Eid. Hospitals were filled with dengue patients and citizens demand a proper prevention policy against the disease. According to statistics, 171 dengue cases were reported on the first day of Eid, 194 on the second day while 142 on the third day of Eid and hundreds of patients being treated in home were not reported.
Thousands of people were forced to pass Eid in hospitals, owing to various diseases. Relatives of dengue victims had to cancel their Eid engagements in order to take care of their loved ones. Medical experts have suggested dengue patients to take liquids, especially fresh apple juice, lemonade and papaya leaf juice to improve the platelet count. Other than dengue, gastroenteritis infections, vector-borne and water-borne diseases due to unfriendly weather were contributing towards the city’s bad health situation.
A young boy told Pakistan Today that six out of seven residents of his house were suffering from different diseases. He said that Eid passed while going to hospitals, laboratories and pharmacies rather than restaurants, parks and play lands. The boy said that the Punjab government should ask the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) or other departments concerned to take care of cleanliness on roads and parks in order to prevent diseases. Experts think that lack of fumigation this year also caused the disease to spread. Various diseases have penetrated into each house of the city as people continue to suffer. A citizen said that the Punjab government should take immediate action to stop the disease otherwise thousands others could fall victim. He said that more people were witnessed in hospitals during Eid than recreational places of the city, which was extremely sad.

  12. Hamna did not die of internal bleeding. She died of heart failure. She fainted because of high grade fever due to dengue. And the doctors of national hospital are to be blamed for this since they did not take proper care of my friend hamna. Her life was much more important than their eid parties that they were more concerned about. Dengue patients are to be kept in full observation but the doctors of national hospital did not keep her and sent her home. They should have admitted her.

  13. Me n my collegues were called in from the icu for her resuscitation… After pronouncing her n coming back to our room, we were in tears all night… One of the most sad calls i ever made… Such an innocent n sweet girl… Not one day passes that i dun remember her n her family in my prayers though i got to know her only for last few minutes of her life… Though its quite late but still, my condolensces to her family for such a great loss…
