President grants remission to prisoners on Eid

President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday, on the advice of the prime minister and under article 45 of the Constitution, approved special remission in jail terms on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Special remission of 90 days has been announced for the prisoners convicted for life imprisonment except those convicted for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism, rape, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping/abduction and terrorist activities.
Special remission for 45 days has been allowed to all other convicts except the condemned prisoners and also except those convicted of murder, espionage, subversion, anti-state activities, terrorist act, rape, kidnapping/abduction, robbery, dacoity and those undergoing sentences under the Foreigners Act 1946.
Special remission for the above mentioned cases would be admissible provided that the convicts had undergone 2/3rd of their substantive sentences of imprisonment.
Total remission have been announced for those prisoners who are 65-year of age or above and have undergone 1/3rd sentence except those involved in culpable homicide and those involved in terrorist activities as defined in the Anti-Terrorism (2nd Amendment) Ordinance 1999.
Female prisoners who are 60-year of age or above and have undergone at least 1/3 of their substantive sentence and not involved in terrorist acts and culpable homicide have also been granted total remission.
Juvenile convicts (under 18-year of age) who have served 1/3rd of their substantive sentence except those involved in culpable homicide, terrorist acts, rape, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping/ abduction, and anti-state activities have also been given total remission of their remaining sentence by the president.
Special remission of one year has been given to female prisoners who have accompanied children and are serving sentence of imprisonment for crimes other than culpable homicide and those involved in terrorist acts.
