British High Commission in Islamabad Adam Thomson said Monday that London was ready to hold two mega events in 2012, Olympic Games and Para-Olympic Games in July and August respectively next year. Speaking to a delegation of National Para-Olympics Committee and national athletes in a ceremony here at BHC, he said that London would provide good hospitality during both the international events to athletes from all over the world.
Adam further said that London hosted first Para-Olympics in 1948 in which players proved that they could show their abilities in the field of sports. “We will host the games in the great fashion,” he added. “The Para-Olympic Games are the second largest sports event of the world after Olympics. In 1952, 130 athletes competed in different disciplines and later in 1960, over 400 players took part in the different events,” he added. He said that around 4200 athletes would take part in the London Games from 160 countries.
“As many as 20 sports disciplines will be part of London Para-Olympic Games,” he hoped. “Archery, cycling, football 5-a side, power-lifting, athletics, road cycling, equestrian, football 7-a side, judo, rowing, sailing, swimming, sitting, fencing, tennis, shooting, table tennis, basketball and rugby are part of the London Para-Olympic Games,” he said. Adam Thomson further told reporters that 6.5 million tickets had been sold and London was waiting the world to host them for historical event of the year. “Para-Olympics event will begin from August 29 and will be closed on September 9,” he said.
