The faculty, staff and students of the University of Karachi (KU) distributed relief goods worth over Rs 600,000 among the rain affectees in Thatta, Sujawal and Jati. KU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi led a 34-member team of the institution that distributed the relief goods. She said on Monday that the team – which included Islamic Studies Faculty Dean Prof Dr Hissamuddin Mansoori, Islamic Learning Department Chairwoman Dr Rehana, teachers, staff and students – travelled to the affected areas the previous day and distributed the relief goods among some 250 families hit by the recent rains.
She also said that the relief items were collected after a meeting of the KU Disaster Management Corps, chaired by KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. The relief goods consisted of household items, food, new clothes and Eid gift packs for children, she added. She further said that Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, who is also the chancellor of public sector universities in the province, has lauded the efforts of KU faculty, staff and students. The KU vice chancellor has also appreciated such contributions aimed at mitigating the sufferings of the rain affectees, she added.
