Allergies are very common in Islamabad due to the high level of pollen in the air. It was observed in a study that one in every three people have an active allergy at any given time, while at least three in four people have developed an allergic reaction at least once in their lives.
Health Awareness Society arranged a media conference on Tuesday, addressed by Federal government Services Hospital (Polyclinic) Senior Surgeon and ENT Department Head Dr Zulkifal Awan on Allergic Rhinitis and its prevention.
Dr Awan briefed the participants about allergic rhinitis and said uncontrolled allergic rhinitis posed a significant economic burden and substantially affected patients’ quality of life, while many patients remained symptomatic despite treatment. Allergic rhinitis was a highly prevalent condition associated with significant morbidity, he added. Most patients with allergic rhinitis suffered from both nasal and ocular symptoms despite treatment and often Poly-pharmacy, Dr Awan told journalists, adding that both nasal ocular symptoms should be carefully reviewed by physicians.
