Leaders of Awami Jamhoori Party (AJP) visited flood hit district of Badin on Monday and distributed medicines and Eid ration among the displaced people at the AJP’s flood relief camp in Kario Ganhwar. AJP leaders Abrar Kazi, Wishno Mal and Hareef Chandio examined the facilities provided at the relief camp. Kazi told the flood-affected people that the government has not prepared any plan for this year’s monsoon rains despite last year’s disastrous floods. He said that out of 1.5 million people displaced by rains, more than 80 percent are suffering from severe food shortage. “Living conditions have worsened as residential areas are still surrounded by water,” he added.
Kazi said that the crisis has worsened as landlords of the affected areas are not allowing international and local NGOs to work properly there. He also condemned the government’s attempt to keep the relief effort centralised by not allowing NGOs to operate in these areas. He said that AJP with its limited resources and the help of civil society would continue to support the displaced people. He further announced that a free mobile medical camp would be organised in Badin after the Eid.
