Six kilogrammes of heroin seized

The Pakistan Customs’ Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of the Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive) has recovered about six kilogrammes of fine quality heroin from an outgoing passenger at the Karachi Airport. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Pakistan Customs said that considering the fact that the drug mafia always exploits the heavy rush of passengers prior to Eidul Fitr, the additional collector of Customs at the Jinnah International Airport, Manzoor Ahmed Memon, had directed the staff to be extra alert to counter such attempts.
The efforts proved fruitful when the Customs staff intercepted an Afghan-born Dutch passenger Muhammad Asim Ahmadi when he reached Jinnah Terminal to board PIA flight No PK-783 for Toronto. The passenger was carrying about six kilogrammes of heroin concealed in different picture frames, embroidered hair clips and curtain knobs kept mixed with personal belongings in two suitcases. The passenger had moulded heroin into different shapes that turned into parts of these items.
Interestingly, the passenger also had a ticket for his flight from Toronto to Amsterdam to deceive the Dutch Customs authorities.
“Consequent upon recovery and seizure of contraband narcotics, the accused passenger has been arrested and prosecution case under Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 has been registered. Further investigations are in progress,” the Customs said in the statement.
