Disowning Zulfiqar Mirza’s allegations against the MQM and Rehman Malik as his personal views, Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said the decisions taken by the party and its leadership with consensus could not be reversed because of an individual’s dissent.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said all the allegations of Mirza were his personal views and they had nothing to do with the party. “He resigned from the cabinet, the Sindh Assembly membership and the party’s slot prior to holding the press conference,” the information minister said. She said the decisions taken by the government and the party leadership in consensus with allies could not be reversed because of an individual’s dissent as the government wanted peace in Karachi.
When asked if any disciplinary action would be taken against Mirza by the party, she said this decision lied with the party leadership.
Regarding allegations against Interior Minister Rehman Malik, she said he would defend himself and reply to these at an appropriate time. She remarked Mirza had resigned for personal reasons. She said the agenda of the PPP was consultation with others and the party believed in political solution through dialogue by taking all stakeholders into confidence. She added the first priority of the federal government was to restore peace in Karachi.
To a question about the kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer, she said law and order was a provincial subject and added the federal government was willing to help the authorities concerned in their efforts to attain peace.
Meanwhile, in a late night development, President Asif Ali Zardari called a meeting of the Sindh cabinet and MPAs in Islamabad on Monday (today).
