Lahore General Hospital fixes dept for research

Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Professor Dr Tariq Salahuddin announced on Sunday that the LGH administration had assigned an academic block to research in medical science for diagnosis and cure of modern diseases, and the department would conduct related seminars, training workshops and research activities.
Dr Tariq was addressing a ceremony held to award certificates to the participants of a two-day workshop on “Childhood Tuberculosis (TB)” held at the LGH. He said by merging Nero Auditorium and old laboratory with the hospital, a modern academic block for research had been formed. The project cost Rs 6.6 million and would be functional from next month, he said.
While terming the workshop useful, Dr Tariq said such activities were essential to train doctors to provide modern health facilities to patients. The professor said TB could be controlled through care and prevention. He said the Punjab government had provided necessary facilities at all the provincial hospitals and basic health units to combat TB and other ailments.
Dr Tariq said the new research unit would cater to all the research needs and requirements of doctors. He urged the doctors to stay in touch with research centres to remain updated about modern knowledge of medical science.
Medical Superintendent Dr Zafar Ikram, Chief Coordinator Prof Agha Shabir Ali, TB Programme Director Dr Nayyer Ghayas and doctors from all over the province participated in the workshop.
