Explosives seized, man held for harbouring militants

Mardan police on Sunday recovered a huge quantity of explosives in two raids in the Chura police station area and arrested a person for sheltering militants.
On a tip off that Farooq Alam, Fakhr-e-Alam, Sher Alam, Shahbaz Khan and Sabz Ali of Gujrat and Tariq and Nadeem of Junghara Bakhshali, wanted by Chura police in various cases, were present in the house of Sabz Ali in Kashmirabad, Gujrat, and were preparing for terrorist attacks, a police party raided the place. The alleged militants succeeded in fleeing the spot. The police, however, recovered 20 kgs of explosive material, 70 meters prima cord, two RPGs (rocket launcher shells) and 11 batteries with IDs. In another raid, the police arrested one Muhammad Yousuf for allegedly sheltering militants and providing financial assistance to them.
A few weeks ago banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced Amjad alias Musa of Bakhshali as ameer of Mardan district TIP. He was wanted by police in various cases. After his appointment, militants increased their activities in the area, prompting panic and fear among the people. It is feared that the militants will spread their activities to Mardan city.
