Eight killed as van falls into floodwater

At least eight persons, including three women and two children, were killed when a passenger van fell into floodwater near to Landi Kotal town of Khyber Agency on Sunday morning. The officials said that around five persons were still missing with efforts underway for their recovery. As per details, a passenger coach was on its way from the border town of Torkham into Peshawar. The vehicle was washed away by heavy floodwater when it reached at Wali Khel village near Landi Kotal. All passengers were washed away by floodwater but the driver survived.Eyewitnesses said that as a result of heavy floodwater in the Nallah, the main Torkham-Peshawar Road was closed for all traffic. Other people and drivers tried to warn the driver of the ill-fated vehicle not to proceed. However, the driver ignored the warning and drove on.The officials said that dead bodies of eight people had been recovered whereas efforts were underway to recover the rest.The killed persons were Afghan nationals and the dead bodies were dispatched to their native villages. One child also drowned in the flood at Shalman area of Khyber Agency. Meanwhile, a doctor went missing when he fell into heavy floodwater near Abbottabad.
