Court seeks report on Shamshad Gulzar’s activities in jail

An accountability court has sought comprehensive report on Monday of the activities of the Lahore Mass Transit System Project (LMTSP) scam’s main accused Shamshad Gulzar who was allegedly involved in the abduction of key prosecution witness Section Officer (Transport) Humayun Rasheed.
On an application filed by LMTSP scam investigation officer Nadeem Sajid, the court also sought the record of cell phones being used by
the accused to control his network from the jail.
According to details, Sajid had filed an application in the accountability court submitting that Rasheed, the main prosecution witness in the scam had to appear in court on August 16 for his statement but he was kidnapped a week ago and thrown on The Mall after being severely tortured and forcibly shaven.
Sajid alleged that Gulzar who was running his network from the jail through cell phones was involved in the Rasheed’s abduction. Sajid contended Gulzar was freely using cell phones in the jail and was in constant contact with his wife Farat Shamshad, accused in the same case and detained at Camp Jail.
Sajid requested the court to protect, under section 31-E of the National Accountability Ordinance, over a hundred LMTSP scam prosecution witnesses being threatened by Gulzar’s network.
Upon this, the court directed Kot Lakhpat Jail Superintendent Gulzar Butt to submit a comprehensive report regarding Gulzar’s activities in the jail at the earliest.
Separately, the judicial magistrate (Model Town) sent on Monday Saadia Asif, who had killed her teenage servant for not serving meal to her pet dog, to jail on judicial remand until September 12.
Resident of Valencia Town, Saadia Asif had ordered her servant Taqin Usman of Chiniot to serve food to her dog when she was going to the market. On her return, she was infuriated to find the dog hungry. To punish Usman, she locked him in a room and beat him to death with a cane. After the incident, the accused woman had disappeared and was finally arrested by the police on Monday.
