Weekly inflation goes up by 0.15 per cent

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on August 25, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered nominal increase of 0.15 per cent over the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 311.65 points as against 311.18 points registered in the previous week, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
The SPI for the combined group registered an increase of 0.04 per cent by rising from 304.83 in the previous week to 304.70 in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined groups in the week under review witnessed an increase of 15.94 per cent. As compared to last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs3001-5000 and above Rs12,000 witnessed an increase of 0.12 per cent and 0.00 per cent respectively. During the week under review average prices of only 3 items registered a decrease, while that of 20 items increased with the remaining 30 items’ prices unchanged.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included, (chicken farm), garlic and vegetable ghee (loose).
The items which registered an increase in their prices included, tomatoes, sugar, jaggery, onions, cooked beef plate, rice IRRI-6, beef, rice basmati broken, wheat (average quality), red chillies, potatoes, firewood, masoor pulse (washed), egg hen (farm), wheat flour (average quality), bananas, kerosene, moong pulse washed and mash pulse (washed).
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, gram pulse (washed), mutton, bread plain, milk fresh, milk powdered, curd, vegetable ghee (tin), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt powdered, tea packet, tea (prepared), cigarettes, coarse latha, lawn, sandal gents, sandal ladies, electricity bulbs, match box, washing soap nylon, bathing soap, gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU,LPG (11 kg cylinder), electricity, petrol, diesel and telephone (local calls).
