Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) Chairman Hameedullah Jan Afridi on Sunday said the IPO would be developed into a business and commerce-friendly entity by the strict enforcement of trademark, patent and copyright infringement laws.
He expressed these views while talking to Pak World Trade and Expo Centre Chief Executive Khurshid Barlas who called on him in Islamabad, and discussed matters relating to the promotion of business activities within the country and abroad.
Afridi said trade and commerce related activities were vital for the overall industrial development of the country and it was imperative for Pakistan to boost economic activities through the promulgation of effective laws and their strict implementation.
He said IPO-Pakistan would fulfil its responsibilities by giving legal protection to all registered businesses under IPO laws.
He asked the business community to join hands with IPO-Pakistan to promote and help flourish legal business practices in the country which would also expand employment opportunities. He said a number of steps had been adopted to facilitate to the fullest all those who wanted to register their creations.
Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that with the assistance of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), training courses for IPO technical experts had been started and the representatives from the trade and commerce industries would also be made an integral part of these trainings.
He appreciated the efforts of Pak World Trade and Expo Centre for organizing successful Pakistani-made product exhibitions not only in Pakistan but various other countries and introduced there the handicrafts and culture of Pakistan which had promoted the export of various items.
Khurshid Barlas, on behalf of the business community, assured cooperation for awareness campaigns and motivation of copyrights owners to register their products.
