Punjab Health Secretary Jehanzeb Khan has issued a show-cause notice to a surgeon doctor at Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in Pattoki named Dr Nadeem Anwar for his “disorderly conduct” during duty hours and “active involvement” in the private practise.
The development came during a meeting held here on Saturday to review performance of medics at the district and tehsil headquarter hospitals in Kasur. Khan took serious notice of private practise of doctors working at government hospitals.
He said their conduct tantamount to their negligence towards their professional responsibilities. He observed that fewer patients turned to state-run hospitals because of doctors “lack of professionalism”. He directed all the medical superintendents concerned to monitor the performance of doctors, nurses and lady health visitors on monthly basis and identify those who were flouting the prescribed rules.
He directed them to notify the vacant posts of medical officers to the Punjab Public Service Commission for recruitment process. He said that instead of contractual appointments, all the posts should be filled on regular basis. He directed the Punjab health director general ensure regular inspection of district and tehsil headquarter hospitals. Khan said a third-party evaluation of government hospitals would also be conducted.
