An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday ordered the confiscation of all moveable and immoveable property of former president Pervez Musharraf, besides freezing his bank accounts for failing to appear in court in the Benazir Bhutto murder case.
The hearing was held in the court of ATC Judge Shahid Rafique at Adiyala Jail. The court passed the verdict after FIA produced the details of property and bank accounts owned by Musharraf. The court directed the FIA to confiscate all the property of Musharraf and also freeze his bank accounts. The court adjourned proceedings until September 10. The court has already declared Musharraf an “absconder” in the assassination case of Benazir, as he did not agree to clarify his position in the case despite several notices.
The FIA had requested the court to summon Musharraf, who was the president at the time of Benazir’s assassination, but he had refused a request to cooperate in the investigation. The prosecutors told the court that the accused was the owner of a farmhouse in Chak Shehzad, Islamabad and also owned a 1,000 square yards plot in Gwadar Housing Society. Musharaff has more than Rs 80 million in his accounts in six banks in Pakistan, they said.
