Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir on Saturday ordered immediate removal of beggars standing at traffic signals and cross roads throughout the city.
The Lahore Police, on instructions of the CCPO, arrested 699 people accused of fake beggary in the city and registered 691 cases against them this year. The CCPO told officers to take substantial steps to assist citizens at police stations. Talking to citizens at the Capital City Headquarters, Tahir said that during the present situation, care was needed to be taken to avoid any unpleasant situation.
He said that police had been taking special security measures for safety of foreigners and multinational companies and telling them to keep in contact with law-enforcement agencies. The CCPO said that private security agencies should be under supervision of local police and no private security guard should be allocated any duty without proper verification by institutions concerned.
The CCPO told citizens that property dealers had also been asked to keep complete records of new residents, whereas, owners of hotels and guesthouses had been asked not to rent any accommodation to anyone without keeping his computerised identity card with them. Tahir told the citizens that on eve of Eidul Fitr, policemen carrying metal detectors would be deployed in and around mosques and imambargahs. He said that special camps were being set up at various markets of the city for public convenience. The CCPO asked the chief traffic officer to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during Eid holidays so that citizens did not have to face transport issues.
Beggars or Hustlers?? In the first case u will have to close all govt offices because they are all beggars. in the second case u will have to secure your red lights with security guards who are themselves 3rd. degree beggars. Lets make hustler streets not food streets and confine them there
