At least 5 passengers were killed and 18 others were injured when miscreants opened fire at Quetta Express near Mach city of Balochistan.
Police and witnesses said that unidentified miscreants opened fire at about 1:30 p.m. local time on a Quetta-to-Peshawar passenger train near Mach area, some 60 kilometers southeast of Quetta.
The rescue teams have reached the site and started to move the patients to hospital for medical treatment. Many of the injured were in critical condition.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Railways, gaspipes, power transmission towers and other infrastructure are frequently attacked in Balochistan. Over the past one year or so, several bomb attacks on railway tracks in the province have been reported, but none of them have caused any casualties as the bombs exploded at wrong time.
