‘Clean up before Eid or go home’

Expressing dissatisfaction over cleanliness in different areas, Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussain Syed on Saturday directed the town administrators to improve sanitary conditions in their respective towns with immediate effect before Eid, or ‘strict action will be taken against them.’
He said this while presiding over the meeting of the 18 town administrators at his office in Civic Centre’s Committee Room on Saturday. The meeting was also attended by City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Municipal Services EDO Masood Alam, Works and Services EDO Altaf G Memon and other city government officers.
“Maintaining cleanliness is the responsibility of town administrators in their respective areas and strict action will be taken against them if they failed to do so,” the DCO warned.
He directed all town administrators to ensure cleanliness at all venues of Eid prayers (Eidgahs) and remove garbage-containers from their surroundings. “Garbage disposal is not being carried out properly and as a result waste is piling up along the road sides.”
Syed directed the town administrators to carry out cleaning and garbage lifting work round-the-clock in three shifts and clear it before Eidul Fitr.
“A good manager is required to solve the basic problems of citizens while having limited resources.
Expressing concern over the unsatisfactory cleanliness conditions, he warned the town administrators to improve their performance or they would be changed or action against them will be recommended.
He said that he and Karachi Administrator Fazlur Rehman will personally visit different areas in city and action will be taken against the town administrators if cleanliness condition in their areas were found to be unsatisfactory.
At the meeting, town administrators also gave briefings about cleanliness work being carried out within their remits.
The Shah Faisal Town administrator briefed the meeting about cleaning of Chakor Nullah and removal of garbage from various areas including Star Gate.
The Gadap Town administrator said that he would seek help from the machinery pool for removal of garbage and waste lying around Yousuf Goth and Maymarabad.
The SITE Town Administrator informed the participants of the meeting that Eid prayers venues will be cleaned before the 29th of Ramazan.
During the meeting, DCO Syed directed the Gulshan Town administrator to remove waste near old vegetable market, Safoora Goth and NIPA. He advised the Korangi Town Administration to stop illegal dumping of garbage and waste in the town limits by some vehicles.
He said that no area in the city should be overlooked for cleanliness work, which should be taken as a challenge.
On a complaint regarding shortage of required machinery including lifters and trucks, the DCO directed the CDGK Machinery Department to provide the necessary equipments to town administrations.
