Unidentified assailants kidnapped and shot dead a retired colonel of Pakistan army, identified as Shakil Ahmed Tariq, here on
Saturday morning. An official of NHA was killed and two others injured in exchange of fire with the kidnappers.
According to police, armed men kidnapped Retired Colonel Shakil Ahmed Tariq while he was on way to home after offering fajar prayers in Defence Colony, Kohat.
National Highway Authority (NHA) officials present nearby the scene of the crime tried to chase and rescue the kidnapped person which led to an exchange of fire.
In the ensuing gunfight, one NHA official, identified as Head Constable Hamid Ali, was killed while two others, constable Adnan and ASI Chanar Gul, sustained critical wounds. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Later, the kidnappers gunned down Shakil Ahmed Tariq and dumped his body near Zero Point.
The police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area after the incident and launched search operation to arrest those in kidnapping and killings.
