Pir Sohawa, a picnic spot located on Margalla Hills in the capital, has become a popular spot for Iftar this Ramadan for people from all walks of life. Groups of families, friends and individuals were witnessed having Iftar and dinner throughout Ramadan at Monal restaurant and other spots located between Daman-e-Koh and Pir Sohawa.
“Around 1,300 to 1,500 people are having Iftar daily at the restaurant,” said a receptionist at Monal restaurant. “The number of people wishing to hold Iftar at the resort is so high that the hotel is compelled to register bookings a day earlier.” The receptionist said during Ramadan it had become very hard for the management to accommodate those who came without advance bookings.
Iftar in restaurants, however, is too expensive for members of the middle or lower middle class. For this reason or out of personal preference, numerous groups of people were seen busy preparing Iftar at various stopovers from Daman-e-Koh up to the top of the Margalla hills. “This is Iftar and entertainment at the same time,” said a young man busy managing Iftar at a stopover two kilometres ahead of Daman-e-Koh.
