In what can be describe as a rare occurrence, Pakistanis may be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr this year with Muslims in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and various other Islamic countries on August 31 (Wednesday).
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Office, astronomical data indicates that there is a chance for sighting the new moon of Shawwal, 1432 AH in Pakistan on the evening of August 30. While according to a UAE-based newspaper, the Islamic Crescent Observation Project (ICOP) has said that Eid-ul-Fitr this year will be celebrated in most of the Muslim countries on August 31 (Wednesday).
The ICOP has also said that in some countries where Ramadan started on August 1 will have 29-day Ramadan and there the moon sighting will be possible on August 29. According to the ICOP, these regions include some countries in the Middle East, north and central Asia and northern Africa. The newspaper said that in the rest of the Muslim world the moon-sighting would be less likely since the time for sighting moon would be shorter. And only in countries that do not depend on the sighting of the crescent, Eid will be on Tuesday (August 30).
Pakistan Met office says that weather will be clear and only partly cloudy in southern parts of the country on Tuesday evening and therefore the moon can be sighted on August 31. This unity among Muslims worldwide would be a rarity when they would be celebrating Eid on the same day.

  1. Muslims time their daily prayers by the hour of the clock. They no longer sight the shadows cast by the sun to determine the prayer times. On the same basis by extension, Ramadan and Shawal should likewise be determined via astronomical calculations – no longer necessary for determination via physical sighting of the moon.

  2. As per moon phases the new moon will be sighted on 29 Aug in Pakistan because the whole months calender shows that the moon is clearly written on 30 JUL in this way the moon disappear 29-1/2 days so it is a great chance of moon on 29 Aug and Eid will be celebrated on 30AUG in Pakistan SAUDI and other countries you may justify from Googl search phases of moon

  3. Completely agree with Mustuffa, this is something very strange that Muslim Scholars agreed upon the fixed movement of the Sun but as comes the matters of Islamic months they stick with moon sighting, why? because Salat pryers are 1825 times a year while its only 12 months..? basis should be same.

And what about that ear when Muslims used to rule 3 Continents of the World there were same dates all our the 3 continents, it was afters worlds Humans create Countries on the basis of languages, races, politics and other social issues, creating countries cannot change the religious rituals……….

  4. President of Saudi Astrology Society Majeed Abu Zehra said that the moon will be easily visible on Tuesday evening and therefore, Eid will be on Wednesday, August 31. On the other hand, the Saudi Supreme Court has advised the citizens of the country to aim for sighting the moon and in case it is visible, to inform the nearest court.
