NEPRA approves increase in power tariff

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has told the Northern Power Generation Company (NPGC) to increase the power tariff by 82 paisas per unit which will be effective from August 7.
The rise has come after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) increased the gas tariff. NEPRA has further approved 57 paisas per unit raise in power tariff in Muzaffargarh and 76 paisas per unit in Multan. NEPRA has also agreed on amendments in agreements made with Iran to import electricity.
Following the approval, tariff of electricity to be imported from Iran has been increased from Rs 4 to Rs 4.38 per unit. According to the agreement, $5 million will be paid to the Iranian company from January 1, 2011 to May, 2011 and $606.25 million from January 1, 2010.
