Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan finally visited Chakra Goth on Friday – a locality that was recently attacked by terrorists.
Both the government high-ups paid separate visits to the locality after eight days of the armed assault. Malik went there in the wee hours of the day while Wasan visited it in the afternoon.
According to the residents, there were very few people at the time of Malik’s visit. The interior minister inspected the houses and shops that were set ablaze during the siege. He assured the residents that the government would protect their lives and properties and said that it would also compensate the losses.
Wasan also inspected the affected places and the residents informed him about the lack of security around the goth.
On the occasion, the home minister announced that a police post would be set up there on a permanent basis that will gradually be upgraded to a police station.
The home minister assured the residents that the assailants involved in the attack would be taken to task. Responding to the complaints against the SHO of the area, Wasan told the residents that the police officer has been removed from the police station and investigation will be started against him soon.
Separately, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah announced Rs 0.5 million for the heirs of each of the people killed in the attack on the goth and Rs 0.1 million each for the injured.
The decision was made at a meeting on the law and order situation of the city held at the Chief Minister’s House on Friday.
