Over 30 people were killed in devastating flashfloods in Kandiya Valley of Kohistan on Thursday. Per details, Gibrial area of Kohistan received torrential rain overnight, triggering massive torrents running down hillsides, which washed away several houses down the slopes. Police said over 30 people lost their lives and several others went missing in the heavy rain and flashfloods. Officials confirmed 16 deaths and put the number of missing at 25.
Locals are making all out efforts to recover the bodies stuck between Nullah Kareen and Nullah Totti. Hazara Commissioner Khalid Khan Omarzai said per the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, rescue activities had been initiated in the affected areas and two helicopters were being used to assist the operation. Meanwhile, a child was killed in Khyber Agency when a house was razed to the ground by heavy rain.
