Pakistan national women’s team had to wait for nine hours at the Karachi airport before leaving for their West Indies tour. The team reached the Karachi airport at around 2.00 in the afternoon from Lahore on Wednesday but instead of moving the players to a nearby hotel in the airport vicinity, the Board preferred to keep them waiting in the airport lounge.
“The team was advised to remain in the airport building and not go out also because of the law and order situation in the city,” Aisha Ashar, manager of the national team said. She said that the girls were happy remaining inside the airport terminal and relaxed in the lounge as they had a connecting flight to catch at around 10.00 PM. But experts believe that the PCB had passed on the wrong message to the rest of the world and country by not allowing the women’s team outside the terminal.
The Pakistan women’s team is going to tour the West Indies for a bilateral series as part of their preparations for the next World Cup. Skipper Sana Mir said the team was excited about their tour to the Caribbean as it was a cricket playing nation that had lot of cricket culture behind it. “The team is well prepared and we have worked hard on the preparations and hopefully the team will produce good results in the Caribbean,” Mir said.
