The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday sought comments from directors general Military Intelligence (MI), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Islamabad SSP over a petition filed by a citizen against the alleged harassment by intelligence operatives.
A single bench of Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan heard the petition. Chaudhry Umar Hayat Sindhu, counsel for petitioner, Zaheer Khan, apprised the court that his client, who runs a private school in Islamabad, was being harassed by the MI and ISI officials. Naming DGs ISI, MI and Islamabad SSP respondents, the petitioner said the officials of the secret agencies had been harassing him continually.
The petitioner further said in court that on April 4, 2011 officials of the named agencies had visited his house and extended threats to the petitioner’s family members after interrogating them. He said on October 17, 2009 police had arrested the petitioner and implicated him in a false case. However, his client was acquitted by the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court, he added. He said officials of the secret agencies visited the petitioner’s village again on August 19, 2011and threatened his family members that if the petitioner was not handed over to them, they would arrest other family members.
“On August, 20 the intelligence operatives visited the petitioner’s in-laws’ house situated in Kashmir ‘s Nakyal Tehsil and threatened them in the same manner. Later on, they visited the petitioner’s school and tried to get information about him without any justification,” he said. He added that the petitioner was innocent and had never involved himself in activities that threatened public safety and the integrity of Islam. After hearing the arguments, Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan issued notices to the respondents for submission of replies and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
