Death toll in Kundyan Valley flashfloods reaches 70

Heavy rains on Wednesday raised the death toll in Kundyan Valley of Kohistan District to around 70, as two villages were washed away by flood water. Officials said another six dead bodies were recovered, taking the number of recovered bodies to 35, adding that efforts to recover the remaining bodies were also underway.
They said identity of 20 people had so far been ascertained. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Imtiaz Hussain Shah said around 70 people from Rashaw and Sambalo Bari of Union Council Gabral were killed as their houses were washed away by flood water, adding that the killed included 28 children and 17 women. Armed forces have sent two helicopters to the area to help the rescue process.
All roads have been destroyed due to heavy floods and hundreds of families have gone stranded. The Hazara commissioner has also dispatched 400 food packs to the affected area.
