Law enforcement agencies have arrested three suspects, a prime suspect among them, involved in the kidnapping of American national Warren Weinstein who was abducted from his residence in Model Town a couple of weeks ago, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir said on Wednesday.
He told reporters that the arrests were helped by the mobile tracking system as two suspects were arrested from Wazirabad, adding that the two disclosed about their accomplice in Faisalabad after which police took the third suspect into its custody. The CCPO said the suspect arrested from Faisalabad could prove helpful in recovering Weinstein.
He said further that they were very close to arresting the kidnappers and would soon recover the abducted American from their custody. He said the kidnappers had not yet demanded any ransom for Weinstein’s release. Tahir said the kidnappers had not managed to take Weinsten out of Pakistan, adding that Pakistani Intelligence agencies were not involved in the American’s kidnapping. He suspected that some anti-Pakistan elements were involved in the abduction.
He said the Lahore Police was not in direct contact with Weinsten’s family and confessed that American investigators were also helping the Lahore Police and other law enforcement agencies in tracing Weinstein. However, well placed sources said law enforcement agencies had nabbed the aforesaid suspects by tracking mobile phones, active in a certain radius of Weinstein’s residence.
