Swat resident appeals to SC for waiver of loans

A citizen from Swat has appealed to the Supreme Court for implementation of the government order to waive off loans of people in the flood-hit and militancy regions.
Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Haji Behroz Khan said victims should be given back their revenue documents that were held by Industrial Development Bank of Pakistan (IDBP) in lieu of extending loans. He criticised the government for failing to implement the announcement of waiving off loans and said the chief justice should take notice of negligence by the government and the bank authorities in this regard.
He told reporters that IDBP officials have not addressed this issue adequately, delaying the meeting of board of directors who would give the final decision regarding the demand put forth for obtaining property documents. Despite the lapse of two years since the announcement was made no date has been set for the meeting yet, he added.
He said that the spell of violence, militancy and floods had destroyed businesses of locals in the region. In the wake of such circumstances there was dire need for this order to be carried out effectively. But despite the urgency bank administration was delaying the redemption of property documents, he added.
