A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed on Wednesday the bail petitions of nine accused in the Sialkot brothers lynching case. The bench comprising Justice Rauf Ahmad and Justice Mazahar Ali was hearing bail applications filed by accused Sarfraz, Jamshed, Iqbal, Owais, Hassan, Rashid Ali, M Asghar, Asghar Ali and Akram.
The accused men said they were innocent of the lynching charges levelled against them in a first information report registered with Sialkot Sadar Police implicating them in a mob-lynching case in which two brothers Mughees Sajjad and Muneeb Sajjad had been beaten to death publicly. Punjab Prosecution Department through Rana Bakhtiar opposed the bail pleas submitting that all the nine accused men were guilty in the case and they should not be granted bail.
The prosecution recalled that the Supreme Court had ordered the Gujranwala ATC hearing the same case to complete the trial quickly within 4 months and that the trial was accordingly in progress.
