Health secretary asks for thorough check on private practitioners

Health Secretary Jehanzeb Khan said on Wednesday that the government had directed all divisional commissioners to keep a check on the doctors of government hospitals and issue a report to the health department if anyone was found involved in private practice during office hours.
While presiding over a meeting to review the performance of District and Tehsil Headquarters hospitals and health centres of District Okara, the secretary reviewed the performances of the medical superintendents (MS) of Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals, Dipalpur and Haweli Lakha and District Headquarters Hospital, Okara and warned the MSs that if the performance indicators could not be improved then stern action would be taken against officers responsible.
The secretary said that senior citizens and disabled persons should be given special attention by the hospital administrations. He also said that stern action should be taken against people involved in cases of spurious and substandard drugs and such cases should be taken to higher courts. The Secretary Health told the department that automatic external defibrillators (AED) must be provided to all District and Tehsil Headquarters hospitals of the province.
He directed the health director general to take immediate steps for the provision of AED’s. PMA amends Health Professional Allowance: Pakistan Medical Association President Dr Muhammad Tanveer Anwar, General Secretary Dr Izhar Ahmed, Dr Ihsanur Rehman, Dr Yasmin Ihsan, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Salman Kazmi and Dr Sabahat Habib in a combined press statement on Wednesday congratulated the women medical officers, demonstrators, senior women medical officers and blood transfusion officers on their inclusion in the Health Professional Allowance.
They added that an amendment in the previous notification had been issued in which the Punjab Finance Department had omitted these categories in the pay raise notification, however, senior demonstrators had been missed in this notification as well. Five thousand doctors of Punjab would benefit from the new notification issued by the Finance Department.
