Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas on Wednesday directed the provincial Rehabilitation Department to speed up implementation on phase-II of relief activities for the flood survivors, displaced more than a year ago when heavy floods devastated many parts of the province. He said this while speaking at a high-level meeting of administrative secretaries, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) representatives and bank officers held at the chief secretary’s office on Wednesday. Abbas stressed the need for further strengthening coordinated efforts aimed at providing Watan Cards and other necessities to the flood survivors.
He asked the district coordination officers of flood-affected districts to extend utmost cooperation in enabling the rehabilitation department to serve the deserving families.
At the meeting, the Rehabilitation secretary informed the participants that 690,936 family heads were provided Watan Cards, of which 53,782 cards are in the payment process while payment of Rs 11.668 billion has already been made to 636,909 affected families. Abbas, however, has summoned a comprehensive report from the rehabilitation department, in consultation with NADRA, within two days, emphasising that disbursements to the rest of the flood survivors should be made before Eidul Fitr.
