1m people affected by rains, says Qaim

Around a million people have been affected by heavy rains in Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Mirpurkhas districts, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah informed the US Consul General (CG) William Martin on Wednesday. Martin had called on Shah at the CM House where both men discussed matters of mutual interest. Shah told Martin that heavy losses had been incurred due to the recent rains that affected lower Sindh, where crops, roads, buildings and other constructions were adversely damaged.
The CM said that a large area of Badin was inundated with rainwater, which has resulting in the spreading of epidemic diseases. He said that various international agencies and non-governmental organisations among others are taking active part in relief activities, which is very essential under the present circumstances. He stressed upon philanthropists and other welfare institutions to extend cooperation for the purpose. The US CG assured the CM that the US government would cooperate with the Pakistani government in this regard.
