The Supreme Court on Wednesday returned a constitutional petition, which sought the appointment of an SC judge from the minorities, with the objections that the petitioner had no locus standi to file the petition, besides advising him to approach the appropriate forum.
The petition was filed by Advocate Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta under Article 184(3) of the constitution, while the federation and the Ministry of Law and Justice had been named the respondents. The petitioner had submitted that any person from the minorities with the right credentials may be appointed a judge in the SC at the available vacant seat of Justice (r) Javed Iqbal. The SC registrar, however, returned the petition with the objections that the petitioner had no locus standi to file the petition.
