Notices were issued to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh government, heads of the intelligence agencies and others in a constitutional petition that sought a judicial inquiry into the Mehran naval base incident by the Sindh High Court on Tuesday. A division bench consisting of Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Imam Bux Baloch directed the respondents to file their comments on the date set by the office.
Petitioner Haji Gul Ahmed had submitted that Interior Minister Rehman Malik had told the media that four attackers were killed while two had managed to escape during the naval base operation but the FIR had nominated 12 people. He submitted that according to the Navy Chief Admiral Nauman Bashir the attackers had managed to enter Mehran base through the PAF airbase, which showed negligence on the part of the security agencies and such incident demanded the holding of a judicial inquiry so that they were not repeated in the future.
