Meet the man who survived the dreaded bori

In an unprecedented incident in this violence-hit city of lights, a man dumped by criminals, who believed their prey to be dead, was recovered alive from a gunny bag in the Lyari area on Tuesday.
Meet Imran, who was found inside a gunny bag near Lyari River and taken to the Civil Hospital by police and rescue workers for legal formalities.
Everybody at the hospital got the shock of their lives, as the ‘dead man’ was found to be alive and immediately rushed for medical treatment.
Since his childhood, 30-year-old Imran had heard about violence, torture and targeted killings in the city and only watched about bullet-riddled and tortured bodies on television.
But he had never thought that one day he will be kidnapped himself and thrown in a gunny bag after being tortured.
Speaking to the media, Imran’s mother said that his son had left the house for Eid shopping and had been missing since. He was kidnapped, tortured and shot, but fortunately remained alive, she added.
“Thanks be to God, who saved him even though the cruel people had almost killed him,” she told journalists at the hospital.
Kidnappings are becoming a routine in the city and the victims’ bodies are later found dumped in old gunny bags by police or rescue workers.
The trend became common in the early 1990s but has recently returned to the city, as terrorists kidnap a person, brutally torture him and dump his body in a gunny bag after killing him. The sacks are thrown on the roadsides or any other deserted place.
