ICT begins dengue awareness campaign

A week long health campaign was launched on Tuesday by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to create awareness among the residents of rural areas of the federal capital about precautionary and preventive measures against the dengue mosquito. A spokesman for ICT said that on the directions of Islamabad Deputy Commissioner(DC) Amer Ali Ahmed, the Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO) and local government officials, it has launched a full scale public awareness drive in the rural areas of the metropolis to educate the local community about dengue. He said that the campaign is being monitored on a daily basis and the Islamabad DHO has been directed to submit daily progress reports to the Islamabad DC.
“Doctors in-charge of all the health facilities in the rural areas of Islamabad have been issued instructions to hold orientation sessions in the facilities for the lady health workers,” spokesman said. He said that the lady health workers have also started door to door visits in the community to educate them about the possible preventive measures against dengue. Islamabad DC Amer Ali Ahmed said that the sanitary inspectors of the health department were also starting fumigation drives in the rural areas of Islamabad from tomorrow as part of the precautionary measures.
The fumigation would be carried out under the supervision of Rural Islamabad Assistant Commissioner Saba Asim and Magistrate Rural Kamran Cheema who would furnish their progress reports to him on daily basis. Fumigation drive will be carried out in the rural areas including Rawat , Koral , Tarlai , Sihala and Bhara Kau areas. ICT Administration has appealed to the people to take preventive measures against the dengue mosquito.
