A local anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday released 34 accused, including Pakistan Muslim League’s (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel, in the case of escape from police custody.
PML-N’s Anjum Aqeel, along with other accused, appeared before Rawalpindi’s special ATC-1.
Police said in its discharge report presented to the court during the proceedings that no clues were found about Farooq Shaheen and Mithu Khan, among 34 others, regarding their involvement in Anjum’s escape from police custody and nothing was recovered from their possession either. Accordingly, they should be set free.
The court exonerated the accused from the case on the request by police and adjourned the case against 32 accused including Anjum Aqeel till August 31.
Meanwhile, the court directed police to present the challan to the court on the next hearing.
