Textile exports during the first month of the current fiscal year (2011-12) were recorded at $1.121 billion, showing an increase of 14.22 per cent over the exports of $982.007 million of the same month during the last fiscal year, Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported.
However, the exports of textile group witnessed a decrease of 15.26 per cent when compared to the exports of $1.323 billion during June 2011, according to FBS provisional figures. The textile products that contributed in positive growth of textile sector included raw cotton, exports of which increased from $1.026 million during July 2010 to $11.521 million during July 2011, showing an increase of 1022.90 per cent.
As compared to the raw cotton exports of $9.815 billion in June 2011, the exports of the commodity during July witnessed an increase of 17.38 per cent. Similarly, exports of cotton yarn increased by 3.29 per cent in July 2011 over July 2010 by growing from $112.664 billion to $116.368 billion.
Exports of cotton cloth in July 2011 increased by 12.28 per cent over July 2010 while that of yarn increased by 530 per cent, knit wear by 10.73 per cent, towels by 13.53 per cent, tents, canvas and tarpaulin by 54.09 per cent, readymade garments by 29 per cent, art silk and synthetic textile by 40 per cent, made up articles (excluding towels and bedwear) 21.89 per cent whereas the exports of other textile materials witnessed an increase of 30.60 per cent during July 2011 over July 2010. The products that witnessed negative growth in exports during July 2011 over June 2011 included cotton (carded or combed), and bed wear exports which fell by 75.97 per cent and 3.13 per cent respectively.
On the other hand, as compared to the exports of June 2011, the exports of raw cotton in July witnessed positive growth of 17.38 per cent whereas the export of tents, canvas and tarpaulin increased by 2.33 per cent. The exports of cotton yarn witnessed negative growth of 24.06 per cent in July 2011 over June 2011. Similarly the exports of cotton cloth decreased by 20.4 per cent, cotton carded or comber 53 per cent, yarn other than cotton yarn 24.56 per cent, knit wear 7.74 per cent, bed wear 12.7 per cent, towels 14.78 per cent, readymade garments 13.91 per cent, art, silk and synthetic textile 20.27 per cent, madeup articles (excluding towels, bed wear) 0.83 per cent whereas exports of other textile products decreased by 31.98 per cent.
