After the murders of hundreds of people by armed gangs in Karachi, the Supreme Court on Monday finally took suo motu notice of the continuing violence in the city and sought media footages containing pictures of the bloodshed in the metropolis within the next 24 hours.
The court directed all television channels to submit footages of the unrest and bloodshed as well as CDs and DVDs of various programmes on the law and order in Karachi with the Supreme Court registrar’s office by August 24.
The court also sought details of current targeted killings in the city, besides directing its Registrar’s Office to collect all record related to current incidents of violence in the city.
According to the Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court, notices have been issued to all TV channels to submit footages of violence in the last three months. The suo motu notice has been taken on an appeal by noted religious scholar and head of Tehreek Minhajul Quran, Dr Tahirul Qadri, published in a local newspaper. In his appeal, Dr Qadri requested the SC to intervene into the bloodshed in Karachi, as the federal and Sindh provincial governments had miserably failed to control the deteriorating law and order in the last three months. After reviewing the footages and other material, the Human Rights Cell of the SC will forward the matter to the CJP for further orders.

  1. Supreme Court has taken finally the right step in the right direction although its already a little bit late. Of course the credit goes to Dr.Tahir-ul-Qadri who brought the attention of SC towards the sensitivity of the issue. Hope the killer would face a due punishment for their evils.

  2. At last! Please issue gag order to Altaf Hussain and ban all his "teleconferences" as he is not legally a resident of Pakistan and should not have ANY right to lead a political party especially one that has been responsible for the mess in Karachi since the 80s!!!! We shouldn't forget the past! PPP is really bad, but MQM?!? Please!!!! anyone 30+ should remember what atrocious circumstances they have brought about in the past. and Altaf Hussain should be the first political "leader" to be completely banned from pakisTani politics!!!!

  7. We are very grateful to dr tahir ul qadri sb for making a passionate appeal to the SC. We need a leader like him to come to power to sort this mess out. The current political lot who has got us into this mess in the first place can't get us out of it. We appeal to the SC to please send this govt packing and appoint a govt consisting of honest people like Dr Tahir ul Qadri, Imran khan, dr A Q khan, aitazaz ahsan, talat Hussain and some other people of the same qualifications. That is the only way out of these difficult times.
