Saleem Raza of Gujranwala Golf Club was the first Pakistani to participate in the Disabled British Open Golf Championship held at the East Sussex National Golf Resort in the United Kingdom on August 20 to 21. Out of a total of 77 competitors mostly from Europe and the United States, Saleem Raza attained the eighth position with two rounds gross, scores of 82 and 79.
In a message, he stated that his hitting off the tees and fairways was extremely satisfactory but he lost seven strokes through three putts on the undulating and extremely fast greens, a feature not available on the golf courses in Pakistan. Saleem Raza also stated the East Sussex Golf Course was simply beautiful, specifically designed with championship golf in mind, and certainly a formidable test of golfing ability.
