The South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) has sent defamation notices to the management of a private TV channel, anchor Mehr Bukhari and analyst Zaid Hamid over malicious accusations made in a TV talk show.
Sent by SAFMA Secretary General Imtiaz Alam and SAFMA Punjab President Anjum Rashid through advocate Abid Hasan Minto, the legal notices under Section 8 of Defamation Ordinance 2002 quoted the “defamatory and inflammatory remarks” Zaid Hamid made in the programme hosted by Mehr Bukhari aired on August 16 and repeated on August 17 and 18. The remarks have caused resentment among leading media persons and civil society. SAFMA branches in other provinces will also issue libel notices.
The notices sought “an unequivocal apology” from the TV management and anchor Mehr Bukhari, and asked the channel to “invite Hamid back to the show in which the aforesaid apology and categorical denial is required to be issued, and allow him the opportunity to advance his apology”.
At times, rather most of the times, it is hard to digest the truth 😛
Its time for Hamid to sue SAFMA and Nusrat Javed for stating on the same national television, that Hamid is the red capped joker and a toddler and is on the payroll of ISI without evidence or proof. What a bunch of hypocrites in SAFMA. While they talk about free speech, at the same time, they are working towards suppressing it. They have clearly summed up their ideology in the following words, on another national television programme, which can be summed up as 'two nation theory is bogus. Iqbal doesn't exist. India has nothing to do with funding separatists movement in Waziristan and Baluchistan, Kashmir is not a subject to be touched, Internal terrorism within Pakistan has also been planted by ISI and the cherry on top, article 62 and 63 of the constitution are 'Khurafaat' because they state the head of the country should 'not be corrupt?' If this is their state of mind, one wonders to what end this apparently 'FREE MEDIA' is working towards?!

I think a legal notice should be sent to SAFMA whom she was representing to seek apology from the entire Pakistani Nation.
