At least two female paramedics were injured when terrorists attacked a team administering polio drops to children at Pishin. The incident occurred in Kali Machan where a team of female paramedics was administering polio drops to children in a house-to-house campaign. During the duty period, Naseeb Ullah allegedly attacked the paramedics, injuring two workers. The accused escaped from the scene.
After the incident, the Paramedical Association strike on President Fazal-ur-Rehman Kakar’s call. He also lodged an FIR with local police. The injured paramedics told police that locals considered them United States of America (USA) or Non-Government Organisation (NGO) ‘agents’. They said local tribesmen had asked them to stop administering polio drops and they were attacked when they carried on.
Tribal elders, however, said they were not against administering polio drops to children since polio was a dreadful disease. They said Pishin was a tribal area and foreign NGOs often conducted projects there. However, they said NGO’s should be obliged to understand their tribal customs before coming.
