The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has signed 10 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with their Indian counterparts for promotion of two-way trade, during the last few years.
“There exists a large quantum of trade of textile products and therefore the business community of two-countries should play their effective role,” said Vice President KCCI Junaid Makda while talking to Premal Udani, Chairman, Apparel Export Promotion Council of India (AEPC) during the KCCI delegation’s visit to India International Garments Fair at New Delhi.
The KCCI VP called for regular exchange of trade information and said that KCCI was regularly organising ‘Hamara Karachi Exhibition’ since 2004 and Indian companies also participate in the exhibition.
However, their participation was not significant in recent years he pointed out and sought increased participation of Indian firms in exhibitions held in Pakistan. Makda also stressed upon the need of easy market access to the business community of two countries. He said that the bilateral trade will act as cornerstone for more Confidence Building Measures (CBM).
Speaking on the occasion, the APEC chairman Udani said that trade between the two countries should be increased aligned with the existing potential.
“Business must lead over bureaucracy,” he said and informed that AEPC had worked to integrate the entire industry, supplying manpower; identifying the best countries to buy machinery and other infrastructure.
He highlighted that for human resource development, AEPC had introduced mobile training centers equipped with latest machinery which move to desired destination to provide training to individuals.
The KCCI delegation held meetings with the representatives of Export Promotion Council, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).
