South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) and Media Commission Pakistan (MCP) on Tuesday condemned the attack on three Khyber TV personnel in Peshawar and termed it an attempt to intimidate the media. Reportedly, some attackers stopped a Khyber TV car, thrashed the staff and injured them.
They warned them of dire consequences if the Khyber TV continued broadcasting stories on corruption in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government. “The incident is an example of increasing vulnerability of journalists to violence,” said SAFMA Secretary General Imtiaz Alam and MCP President IA Rehman in a statement.
The Khyber News team, comprising Controller News Syed Waqas Shah, Bureau Chief Hazrat Khan and Akhbar-e-Khyber Resident Editor Nisar Khan, was attacked in front of Nishtar Hall with firearms the other day.
