Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Tuesday that a political solution of the Karachi situation was being sought as army actions in Karachi in the past had not delivered the desired results. Talking to reporters after attending the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, Firdous said only a political situation could be a permanent one.
She said the Pakistan Army had always helped the civil government and if the Sindh government would request the federation, army would be called. She said all political parties, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, needed to work together but the demand for the prime minister’s or the president’s resignation was unjustified.
What sort of political solution is in the mind of Firdaus Awan? Does that mean any one breaks the law of the land he should be rewarded with concessions. Here the situation is that a group belonging to a party resorts to extortion of money, blackmailing and murder and then rewarded with benefits which in a civilised country would be considered aiding and abetting crime. The policy should be zero tolerance for illegal activities.
