‘Banks not returning property documents of flood victims’

A Swat citizen Haji Behroz on Monday called for Supreme Court (SC)’s intervention in implementing the government’s decision to waive off loans on victims of flood and terrorist activities in the region as banks were not returning back their property documents.
Behroz told reporters that violence, militancy and the subsequent floods had inflicted significant damages to businesses of locals in the region, adding that decision to waive off their loans in such a bleak situation had given them some hope. However, Behroz said the bank administration was not redeeming property documents of victims. The citizen said further the victims were under severe mental stress, adding that the government had announced on December 31, 2009 to waive off loans of flood and terrorism victims of Malakand division but the order had not been carried out and banks’ authorities had resorted to lame excuses.
He demanded the government to take serious and practical steps to improve the situation of masses who had suffered in the wake of uncongenial conditions in the region.
