Different nationalist parties of the province have demanded that the present government, which has failed in all areas, should be removed and replaced with a caretaker set-up. At a national conference arranged by the Save Sindh Action Committee (SSAC), they also demanded that the commissionerate system should be restored in the province, Karachi be made a weapon-free city and protection be given to the goths in city.
They said that the government should take proper care of the rain-affected people of the six districts of lower Sindh. They also agreed to work together to protect the unity of Sindh and its identity. Sindh United Party Chairman Jalal Muhammad Shah said that the people of Sindh gave a heavy mandate to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), but the party failed to honour it and protect the rights of people of the province.
“After the successful strike of August 13, the mandate of Sindh is now with the SSAC and not the PPP. The SSAC will ensure that all attempts to divide Sindh are thwarted,” he said. Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chief Bashir Qureshi said that that his party considers Urdu-speaking people of the province as Sindhi. “However, we warn the MQM that it should not try to create differences between the Urdu-speaking and the Sindh-speaking people of the province,” he added.
Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party head Dr Qadir Magsi has said that strike of August 13 proved that the people of Sindh are non-violent and peaceful because there was nobody killed or a any shop torched across the province that day. “However, in reaction to Dr Zulfiqar Mirza’s statement, more than 15 people were killed in Karachi,” he added. “If the government does not restore the commissionerate system, the people of Sindh would destroy the president’s house in Nawabshah,” Dr Magsi warned and also criticised the Urdu media for being “biased”.
He also opposed the move to call out the army in Karachi. Awami National Party Sindh President Shahi Syed said that Pakhtuns make no claim over Sindh. “Our hearts are beating with the Sindhi people. They are the owners of Sindh. We only came here for employment. We love the land of Sindh as much as we love our own land. I appeal to all nationalists to own Karachi,” he said.
